Jim Jones is originally from Oak Park IL and was raised on the piano from age three. He took his mechanical engineering degree at Purdue where he majored in banjo and recorded in 1958 with the Salty Dogs (The band later carried on under the name 'The Original Salty Dogs' to avoid confusion with the campus band).
Jim sold his sales engineering corporation in Los Angeles and retired in 1998 to joyously pursue his musical interests grouped under the name of YesterTunes Music. He plays banjo and guitar in several Dixieland and Swing bands throughout the West and leads his own JJ’s Sunset Syncopators.
Jim has an archival collection of 15,000 orchestrations, leadsheets and 78-rpm records. He shares these with musicians and fans worldwide though his extensive website, www.yestertunes.com.
He is a board member of the American Federation of Jazz Societies and became president in early 2006, believing sincerely that America's music - jazz - needs the help of a strong central forum to share ideas for excellence among supportive organizations.
Jim is married to Janey since 1977. Together, they have five children and twelve grandkids. He will never be tall.
