(For Bill O'Connell and his "re-dream" of the Artist as priest)

He said,
'The most important social ill today is apathy.
We must eliminate apathy, strike at it, smash it, and kill it...
But the trouble is that no one cares, purple shirts can be dyed pink or any other color.

We are dying in this freedom, this abundance of comfort,
We Artists, in our role as modern priest, must jab, and dance,
with combinations. We land our hooks and uppercuts. We must proudly
knock out apathy. Damn it, Art is about going beyond these rational
shells. Art is about eliminating apathy and...
This is why Jazz is vital and important.
It includes all of us, you know, Free jazz, acid, jazz, be-bop,
Cool Jazz, Booggie- woogie, swing...all of it.

She interrupted and said,
"My art is apolitical, when you get off your soap box,
Do you want to go out and down a few beers? ".

"Screw you", Said the artist.
