Joe Zupan- Biography
Boots Mussulli

Joe Zupan has been "radio active" for the majority of his adult life, working at public radio stations in Spokane, Detroit, and Worcester before moving to Virginia in 2005. Joe says the highlight of this quarter century was a two month reporter's exchange program that landed him in the Central Pacific island nation of Kiribati. But it got better! Four years later, Joe spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer serving as broadcast advisor to the Republic of Vanuatu's Education Ministry in the South Pacific. In this capacity he produced a weekly news magazine hosted by high school students learning English as a second language. While serving as the Jazz Coordinator at WICN from 1999 to 2005 Joe had the opportunity to speak with a who's who list of jazz artists in both New England and on the national scene. Joe took a "public radio sabbatical" in the late 80s spending four years teaching juvenile offenders in court-ordered placement in Riverside, California.

He served as reporter/producer at Public Radio WVTF in Roanoke, Virginia Mondays through Thursdays. "It's pretty much the same thing this time around," Joe said, "only now I get more sleep." Joe hosted "A Tasteful Blend" on WICN between 1999 and 2005 before heading to WVTF at Virginia Tech and a return to the world of news production. Joe has also received pay checks from public radio stations KPBX in Spokane, Washington and WDET in Detroit. Joe has been public radio-active since 1980, broken only by a four-year stint teaching in Southern California and two years as a Broadcast Advisor in the Peace Corps serving in the South Pacific Republic of Vanuatu. In 2008, Joe rejoined the WICN on-air team in Worcester.

Music also resonates in Joe's life away from WICN. He plays percussion in the Red Riders and Jubilee Gardens. Joe holds a bachelor's degree in History from Eastern Washington.
